Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica, CA

Following on the tremendous success of the Third Street Promenade which ROMA designed, this project is aimed at extending the pedestrian orientation of all of the streets in the downtown core. The plan calls for reconceiving the downtown streets as an integrated and locally serving system of urban open spaces that accommodates multiple travel modes, provides an inviting environment for public life, and creates a distinct image for the downtown district. ROMA was the team leader and provided planning and urban design services. One of the key recommendations which was later implemented were the transit streets, a couplet providing regional and local transit service along with a mixture of other transit and pedestrian improvements and amenities within downtown.
